Our four state qualifiers had a good showing at the State Tournament last weekend at the Memorial Coliseum. We finished tied for 24th place with Glencoe. Anthony Johnson went 1-2, but lost to the 2nd and 3rd place finishers. Jake Martin went 1-2 with one pin and lost a close match to a Newberg Wrestler and lost his first match to a two time state placer. Matthew McRae went 0-2, but they were both incredibly close losses(one in the final seconds and the other in the final minute) and he does return for us next year.
Congrats to Dre Johnson for placing 4th at State!!
Dre got a pin in his first match and then reached the semi-finals by beating the number 2 seed 15-5! He then lost a very close 2-3 match which sent him to the consolation rounds where he picked up one more pin before losing in the 3rd/4th place match. Dre earned 17 of our 21 total points at State!
Our awards banquet has been scheduled since the fall for Monday, March 12th at 6:30 pm in the fishbowl/commons at Southridge. We will send out food info tomorrow, but please mark this on your calendar if you hadn't done so already.

Our wrestling team did a pretty good job overall at the Regional Tournament placing 5th out of 11 teams this past weekend. We would have liked to have seen a few more placers and a few higher placers overall, but we did qualify 4 kids to State. Attached are the team scores, individual placers, pictures and complete brackets.
Congrats to the following Southridge placers!
8th place- Ryan Maza (145 lbs), Austin Marlow (152 lbs), Travis Johnson (220 lbs).
7th place- Halbast Gardi (106 lbs), Andy Wilkson (132 lbs).
Congratulations to the four following wrestlers that qualified for the State Wrestling Tournament:
Anthony Johnson-3rd place (160 lbs)
Matthew McRae-3rd place (170 lbs)
Dre Johnson- 2nd place (195 lbs)
And a special congrats to Jake Martin- Regional Champion at 220 pounds.
The State Tournament is this coming Friday and Saturday at the Memorial Coliseum. All information can be found at osaa.org.
I will be taking the four qualifiers over on Thursday evening and we will be staying overnight in hotel rooms (parents of the qualifiers will be sent home a packet today for you to fill out and sign).
All other wrestlers and parents are encouraged to come and watch one or both days. If a wrestler wants to come Friday, he needs to be excused by his parents and have his own transportation both ways.
